Over Fair Tourism

Hi! My name is Melanie and I am happy to say that I will write my bachelor thesis at Fair Tourism starting November 2020! I love to swim and hike in nature. Moreover, I have always been interested in different cultures, languages and sustainable tourism. When I had to choose a company for my internship, I wanted it to be a company that actively helps preserve nature and cares about local communities. That’s why I chose Fair Tourism. I will conduct research in cooperation with Fair Tourism to see how we can make more people aware and enthusiastic about community-based tourism.

Hi! My name is Nicoleta, currently pursuing the final year of my Bachelor’s degree (majoring in Tourism Management) and I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to execute my internship and graduation thesis at Fair Tourism! In 2019 I got to spend a semester abroad in a charming Austrian town near Vienna. Apart from befriending people from all over the globe, during my exchange I discovered that I would like to dive into the field of sustainability thanks to a course I followed, focused on sustainable tourism development. I guess that the rest is history. With my work I strive to contribute to the much needed change for innovative solutions to mitigate the environmental footprint caused by irresponsible travel.

Heyhey, I am Lilli and just finished my Bachelor's degree in Geography. As befits a true geographer, I love to discover the world, but also to improve it to some extent. That's why my Thesis already dealt with sustainable tourism and now I would like to learn more about practical approaches through a voluntary internship at Fair Tourism. My desire is that one day tourism will be developed in such a way that both nature and people can benefit from it. Besides trying to change the world into a better place, I like doing sports and catching up with friends over a coffee. For the next 4 months, I will support the foundation and thus actively raise awareness for fair tourism on several levels.
Hi, I am Kim. A 23-year old with a passion for sustainable travel. During my previous travels I have realised that the tourism industry is not always organised in a sustainable way and that is when I realised that this was something I would like to work on. Therefore, I have obtained a Bachelor of Science in Tourism at Wageningen University and NHTV Breda (now BUAS). Afterwards I did a Master of Science in Sustainable Development with a specialisation in International Development. Both studies contained a research project on tourism abroad, in Vietnam and Indonesia, and that is where I got to see how tourism develops in those regions. With the gained knowledge, I hope to assist Fair Tourism to spread sustainable tourism as a volunteer.

Hello everyone! I am Elise, a French student at HZ University in Vlissingen. I am currently in the second year of my bachelor in Tourism Management and I am joining the Fair Tourism team for my apprenticeship. I am a joyful person that loves to discover new places and cultures. I have always been close to nature as I grew up in the countryside, surrounded by animals and green fields. I still feel amazed by the landscapes, beautiful sunsets, and sunrises that nature gives us. I am very happy and curious to contribute to the research on how to create awareness in France (tour companies and tourists) about Fair Tourism’s CBT project in Thailand.
Hey everyone! I am Celina from Germany and currently studying Tourism Management in Vlissingen, the Netherlands. I am an outside-person, in love with travelling and doing sports like running and snowboarding. Meeting new people and learning about their backgrounds, as well as exploring the beauty of nature are two aspects within those passions, I really value which is why it is important to me to do so in a sustainable way. By doing my internship at the Fair Tourism Foundation, I hope to be able to do my part and support spreading this desire and the practice of community-based tourism, inspiring others and letting them realize their influence on the destinations and people they visit.
Hi, I am Meel, originally from Finland. The past years I have lived a bit all over the places such as in Australia, Germany, The UK and Netherlands. Living abroad has helped me to understand different cultures and backgrounds and shifted me to research more about cultural awareness. I am an International Tourism management student, doing my minor at Breda University focusing on Sustainability, Social responsibility and identity. Through this minor, my interest in sustainability has taken over and therefore doing my thesis research how to make Fair Tourism a social enterprise seems like a perfect fit! For the future, I would like to combine my passion for the tourism industry and sustainability.

Hi there, My name is Mona, I’m originally from Germany and have been living in Amsterdam since I moved here for my tourism management bachelor programme three years ago. I would describe myself as an active person and like to do sports such as running and horse-back riding. I’ve loved travelling and exploring new places ever since I can imagine and have developed a passion particularly for sustainable tourism development during my study. I am currently in the last year of my study and already very excited to start writing my thesis for Fair Tourism in February. In this connection I am planning on developing a marketing and promotional strategy for the CBT project in Huay Pu Keng for the German market.

Hi! My name is Guusje, a fourth year bachelor student, studying Tourism Management in Deventer. I am a typical tall dutchy, who is open-minded, social, driven, loves exploring, travelling and watching the sunset or going for walks. Throughout my life, I have lived in three different countries: The Netherlands, Denmark and Australia. Due to my multi-cultural upbringing, I have gained great passion towards travelling and exploring the world, and gaining knowledge and awareness about the many unique cultures on this planet. I have received the great opportunity to write my thesis for Fair Tourism, and hope to open a door towards the development and awareness creation of community-based and indigenous tourism in Australia.

Hi! I am Fija, a Tourism Management student at Inholland, Diemen. My biggest passion is travelling the world, hiking to beautiful places, meeting other cultures, trying interesting food and learning new languages. Having travelled several years before studying, I realized that the tourism sector isn’t that sustainable in certain parts of the world. I want to contribute to a healthier and happier planet and help communities to benefit from tourism and writing my thesis for Fair Tourism in 2021 lets me do this. I will research the possibilities of CBT for the Maasai in Kenya and see what issues they are facing and conduct a preliminary study on the tourism situation now, also regarding the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Hi you! I am Jeremiah. I am a very adventurous person who is curious about other cultures in the world. That is of course why I am studying Tourism Management. I love to travel, be with my friends and family and I also enjoy learning new things. I really like to see what other countries and cultures are like. Sometimes it is also a good lesson to appreciate what you have, or it can make you rethink certain things. ’The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.’ I have seen which effects tourism can have; many positive, but also some less positive. Thus, I am very thankful and excited to be doing my research for Fair Tourism so that we can help more communities and create opportunities in the world!

Hi! I am Nadja, a Tourism Management student at university InHolland in Rotterdam. I absolutely love traveling and learning about new cultures. After finishing my internship abroad I decided to enroll in a minor that focuses on responsible travel and community-based tourism. This minor made me realize that even though tourism is fun, it can put definite strains on communities and the environment . That is why I decided I do not just want to work in the tourism industry, but I also want to contribute to the development of responsible travel. So I am very excited to be writing my bachelor thesis for Fair Tourism!

Ahoy, I am Mahendra ! An Internship at Fair Tourism Foundation has been an astounding learning savoir-faire starting from the basic aspects. I chose to be an Intern at Fair Tourism Foundation for the sole purpose of giving back to the planet and live as sustainably as possible. I landed in Cologne for my Master studies from a medieval city called Pune, the cultural capital of India. Originating from a rich cultural background, I felt moments of bitter cheerfulness reading about Kayan hill tribe. With my degree in International Tourism and Event Management, an internship at Fair Tourism Foundation is a great pragmatic approach. Moreover, I have a affinity towards Ecological Sustainability and Ethical Wildlife Tourism.

Hi! My name is Myrthe, I’m in my final year of my bachelor at Leiden University College majoring in Human Diversity. I don’t directly study tourism as most of the other interns here, but that’s exactly why I joined Fair Tourism! I started as part of a course that I was taking on Development Project Management, and I’ve been here for more than a year now. At Fair Tourism I can learn about the tourism industry and gain more practical experience. It’s nice how I can bring in my interdisciplinary background. The past year I’ve been working on promotion, marketing, communication, and collaboration with all kinds of other organizations that are trying to stimulate sustainable tourism as well.
Call me Nisa, a master student of Tourism, Society and Environment at Wageningen University. I’m from Indonesia. My interest in tourism has been growing since I took a job as tour guide during my bachelor. Currently, I am currently finishing my thesis about tourism and local culture, which makes me even more interested in sustainable tourism. It is also a reason why I am an intern at Fair Tourism, where I am developing a revenue model and assisting CBT development in Huay Sua Thao.
